Flagler grows ‘greener’ with Hunger Initiative

Riffenburg is First Chair of Student Government Association’s Green Committee. Along with friend Joshua Currie, Riffenburg created the Flagler College Hunger Initiative. He is also an intern for CitySprout and is helping build the garden boxes in Lincolnville.


Students to plant vermicompost bin on-campus

Ideas and projects are sprouting up all over campus, with one common goal: make Flagler “greener.” Student Government Association recently approved four environmental science students’ final class project, which is a fully functioning on-campus vermicomposting system.



SGA approves 2 more clubs

The Student Government Association approved both a Men’s and Women’s Lacrosse Club as well as a Flagler College Greenpeace Student Network at its third official meeting on Sept. 29.

It has been about a year since co-presidents Ben Cannady and John Miller decided a Lacrosse Club was needed at Flagler College.


SGA fills 3 spots, approves 2 clubs

In a nearly two-hour meeting on Tuesday, SGA elected the first chair of the Green Committee and introduced the second chair of Publicity and Parliamentarian. SGA also approved two new clubs.

Chuck Riffenburg won the election for first chair of the Green Committee. He ran against sophomore Kyle Jennette. Riffenburg also serves as the CitySprout Coordinator for Flagler College.

The positions – first chair for Green Committee, second chair for Publicity and Parliamentarian – are all positions of officer standing.

Flagler junior Victoria Priester plans to fight for environmental justice by starting a Greenpeace chapter at the College.

“I’m incredibly passionate about the environment and conservation, and I feel that there’s not enough activism on campus,” said Priester, 21.


Garden crops up in Lincolnville

Cash McVay is finally seeing his group’s idea come to fruition.

McVay, 39, is one of the directors of CitySprout, a local organization dedicated to promoting energy conservation by planting community gardens in St. Augustine. This August, CitySprout finished building the perimeter fence and laying the dirt for the Lincolnville Community Garden, a 900-square foot plot located at the Eddie L. Vickers Recreational Facility in Lincolnville.
