Men’s soccer looks forward to first round game

The Flagler College men’s soccer team will look to continue their excellent season on Tuesday, Nov. 1 as they begin the Peachbelt Conference Tournament. As of last week, Flagler only knew that the challenger would be the team in the eighth playoff position. But after Saturday’s matches, the regular season concluded and USC Aiken emerged as Flagler’s opponent.

Flagler had beaten USC Aiken earlier in October in a 1-0 match and is confident their play over the past month will spill over into the playoffs. The past 8 games have shown Flagler as a top contender with a 7-0-1 record. They have not had a loss since the first day of October when they played Lander with a hard fought 1-2 outcome.

The head coach of the men’s soccer team knows his team is ready for the next step after already winning the Peachbelt Conference title. All aspects of the team have been working well together all season, especially the scoring distribution and outstanding goalkeeping from freshman keeper Camp Bissell. With the offense producing a lot of scoring opportunities and the defense limiting their opponents to only 17 goals throughout the entire season, Flagler has a lot to look forward to.

After the game against Tampa on October 19, there were many injuries that caused Lynch some concern.

“We had to take a couple of days off, maybe three or four days to let everyone heal,” Lynch said.

It is unclear if everyone will be at full strength, but Lynch believes that he will have everyone ready.

The first round game will be played at Flagler’s home field at 7 p.m. on Tuesday Nov. 1.
