The Flagler College women’s golf team needed to bring something special to 2008. The team found it tough this season because of stiff competition. Winning the Panther Invitational made them the first team at Flagler to win a competition in the NCAA provisional stage.
With some challenging courses, the women have maintained confidence with the support of Coach Betsey Larey.
“We tend to be a little weak at the No. 3 and fourth spot,” Larey said. “We have two new players, one from Sweden and Germany, and it will allow us to shore up those two spots that will take our team to the next level.”
Sophomore Laura Martellino is one player who improved drastically this season.
“During our tournaments she [Larey] is always very supportive after a bad shot, which really helps you focus on the next shot,” Martellino said.
