Volleyball team eyeing a national championship

With the Peach Belt Conference tournament starting next Friday, Flagler College junior Jillian Unitas says it has been an incredible season for the volleyball team that keeps getting better.

“It feels awesome to sit atop the conference standing,” Unitas, the teams defensive specialist, said. “We have worked really hard in our practices and pushed tremendously in our games and it goes to show all our hard work has paid off,”




Men’s cross country team beating all expectations

With hard work, determination and team chemistry, Michael Lambert and Alex Bonus said the men’s cross country team keeps exceeding their goals.

After the success of their last meet, they are now the fastest team on record in school history, head coach Dave Williams said. The team finished in third place at the Florida Southern Invitational with Lambert placing ninth and Bonus placing 13th.



Local talent on men’s soccer team

Head men’s soccer Coach John Lynch says he likes to have players from all around the world on his team. But more and more he’s balanced that with local talent.

“It’s great because 10 years ago there weren’t really any players from this area,” Lynch said. “But now every year there are players that can play at the college level.”


Volleyball team helps breast cancer victim

Flagler College volleyball Coach Taylor Mott said that even though Saturday’s conference win against Montevallo put the team’s destiny in their own hands, being able to help a local St. Augustine cancer patient Ashley Daniel meant more than anything.

“It is such an amazing feeling to be able to help someone, especially someone as near and dear to us as Ashley is,” Mott said.


Volleyball brief

After winning their last two matches, the Flagler women’s volleyball team is ranked No. 2 according to the most resent NCAA Division II Southeast Region poll.

Leading the Peach Belt Conference with an 8-1 record, the Saints have been going strong and have won nine-out-of-their-last-11 matches.


Senior basketball player enjoys summer in Germany

John Pietkiewicz had never been out of the country until last summer, when he went overseas to play basketball and spread his faith.

Pietkiewicz was a part of a program called News Release Basketball whose purpose is to spread the word of God in European countries through the sport of basketball. According to the program’s website, it was formed in 1972 by a group of young men who wanted to share their faith with people in Europe.
