St. Augustine’s favorite fall festival: Oktoberfest

By Sheyla Urbinafest | gargoyle@flagler.edu

For the past four years, St. Augustine has welcomed fall with open arms due to the anticipation of Oktoberfest celebrations. Primarily held at the St. Augustine Amphitheatre, this past weekend this weeks Oktoberfest celebration will be held at the St. Augustine Beach Pier and Pavilion.

Oktoberfest is a German holiday celebrated around the world due to its infamous reputation to include everyone’s favorite things: beer and food. This particular celebration will have over 100 free beer samples. Local vendors will supply the food; German music and dancers will be the entertainment; and a mechanical bull will be available to attempt.

While traditionally Oktoberfest is a 16-day event, St. Augustine has successfully recreated the same amount of fun in two weekends. In the past the celebration has helped local restaurants and bars promote themselves by advertising their different types of beers. Locals have often discovered new business’s that are sponsored throughout the event. “I had no idea O’steen even existed but now I’m in love with their fried shrimp and choices of drinks on tap,” raved local Brian Hersey. Keeping the community coming together to enjoy St. Augustine’s version of Oktoberfest will most likely be a tradition for many years to come.

Folio Weekly’s Oktoberfest has VIP for $20 in advance or $25 day of or general admission for $15-$20.
