New SGA board looks toward next year

The 2012-2013 school year is quickly coming to a close, but the new Student Government Association (SGA) Executive Board is already planning for next year. While their plans have not yet been formally reviewed by the Office of Student Services, new board members are hopeful to make an impact.

Recently elected SGA President David Arreola has been presented with a host of concerns to address: from parking issues to Wifi in the residence halls. “Next year is going to be about being more efficient and more effective,” he said.

Arreola said the board wants to provide more incentives for students to become more involved with SGA.

Multiple parts of campus life will see the executive board pushing for programs such as a Student Club Art Walk. Students will be encouraged to bring back a tradition from 2005 and continue to tailgate at Flagler sporting events

Vice President Eddie Oinonen is looking ahead to make good on a very personal promise made on his platform. “I want international students to know that they are going to be represented next year in SGA,” he said. Being an international student himself, he is eager to take on the concerns shared by Flagler’s international community.

Matthew English, secretary, is planning on making sure all members of SGA, from the executive board to the General Assembly, stay up to date each week. His initiatives will include mass communication with members with information and updates about progress over the year.

Treasurer Jessie Keefe said she plans to bring her experience and organizational skills as the club liason to the board. From back-to-school bashes to a Halloween night, she wants to not only ensure funds stay organized, but also add a “light-hearted” atmosphere to the meetings.
