Start your Saturday mornings with a trip to the Old City Farmer’s Market which takes place rain or shine, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m at the St Augustine Amphitheater located just over the bridge of lions on A1A South. St. Augustine’s Amphitheater puts on a farmers market with fresh produce, beverages, drinks, and hand made specialties all from local vendors. Admission is free.
The farmers market is something everyone should experience at least once. It offers much more than just food and beverages. There are often live blue grass bands that play during the morning along with vendors making products to be sold at their booths.
One vendor in particular has been there for over 13 years, Anastasia Kitchen. Sheila, one of the owners at Anastasia Kitchen, has been there for eight years. Sheila and her partner attended the market every Saturday and over the years Sheila has added a twist to what they serve.
They serve everything from their infamous sweet potato black bean burrito, a variety of quiches, salsas, flavorful hummus and Israeli salad every week. If you’re lucky, you’ll get a taste of something special that appears at the booths once a month. This past month was the chickpea salad which tastes exactly like pizza.
“We serve our food using Flow Foods,” says owner Sheila, “We get all our food from the local farmers.” Sheila was even featured on St. Augustine News for the use of Flow Foods at the restaurant and her goodies at the market.
A former St. Augustine local and Flagler alumni comes to the market every time he’s in town and says that it’s his favorite Saturday activity while he is in town.
“My favorite part of my Saturday mornings are waking up early and going to the market to grab my sweet potato burrito from Anastasia Kitchen.” says Robert Bird.
If you’re a local and have not made it to the market yet, it is strongly recommended, especially to try out their fresh food products.
If you miss out on the booth at the market, you can visit Anastasia Kitchen at 900 Anastasia Blvd. St Augustine, Fla. Here, they offer a full breakfast menu and sandwiches with homemade sides for lunch.
