Flagler’s women head volleyball coach resigns

Flagler College women’s head volleyball Coach Taylor Mott has announced her resignation, effective at the end of the year. Mott and her family will relocate to Tennessee where her husband, Brian, has taken a job.

“We had to make the decision that was best for our family,” she said. “It was not the decision we were hoping for, but we will make the best of it.”

Mott will leave Flagler after 13 successful seasons including a NCAA Division II National Tournament final four run in 2009.

Mott’s legacy includes 11 consecutive seasons of 20 or more wins, eight postseason berths, and an overall to-date record of 297-157.

Mott began her volleyball coaching career at Flagler in 1999, where she transformed the program.

In 2001, she led the Flagler College Saints to a 26-17 record. In 2003, Flagler went 32-3 with an astonishing (.914) winning percentage. In 2009, the team won a record 36 matches, which included the historic NCAA tournament run.

Her career includes three Florida Sun Conference (NAIA) Coach of the Year awards, and she has been selected the Peach Belt Conference’s Coach of the Year twice.

Mott’s coaching and impact on Flagler student-athletes will be missed.

“Coach Mott has contributed a great deal to Flagler College student-athletes during her time here. She has made a positive impact on the lives of many student-athletes who have played for her through the years,” said Flagler’s Director of Athletics Jud Damon.

With the postseason about to begin for the volleyball team, Mott believes her current team has the talent to make another magical run for a NCAA Division II Championship.

“We have the talent. We just need to play with confidence and work together as a team, all 12 athletes working towards the same goal,” Mott said.

After the season, Mott will begin her first year out of coaching in over a decade.

“I do think I will coach again. I am just not sure where and when. It is my passion and I hope I can have an impact on another campus and other athletes somewhere else in the future,” she said.
