Opinion: Not so hot in Miami

By Travis Norris | gargoyle@flagler.edu

Six months ago all I heard about was the Miami heat was going to be the team beat in the NBA. When they traded Chris Bosh and Lebron James to Dwayne Wade’s Heat, people looked at it as almost being unfair to the league. There was talk about the dynamic trio as if they were going to take the league by storm. With Lebron’s Akron hammer dunk style, Wade’s elusiveness and silky shot, and Chris Bosh’s way to get points in the paint, it seemed that this was going to be the best team out there.

When Voguit first came to Flagler he was an adjunct and after a few years Abare put him on the full time staff.

This year the Flagler College women’s basketball team is mainly made up of the younger players. Out of the team’s thirteen players five are freshman and six are sophomores. Head coach Lang-Montgomery has been working with the young team and is happy for the opportunities her players have had this season.

“I feel like they are getting a lot of playing time, a lot of minutes on the floor,” Lang-Montgomery said. “I think that is going to help in their maturity and their development as players.”

Former Menendez linebacker’s talent reaches beyond playing field

By Zach Gray | gargoyle@flagler.edu

Star athletes like former Pedro Menendez linebacker Tony Steward don’t come around very often.

Like so many other studs, Steward has all of the athletic accolades that, for most of us, exist only in dreams. For the 2011 recruiting class, he was ranked as the country’s 13th overall prospect, according to rivals.com. Furthermore, Steward’s exceptional talents earned him a scholarship to continue his career at Clemson University. With the world of athletics seemingly in the palm of his hand, it is Steward’s off-the-field lifestyle and endeavors that truly set him apart.
