What better way to start off your spring break than attending the 1st annual Disc Jam hosted by musician Zach Deputy. The weekend entails a live music festival over the span of three days and several disc golf tournaments. The event is to take place March 8th to 10th at the Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park in Live Oak, Fla.

“I want it to feel like a bunch of family hanging out,” Deputy said. “I’m doing this festival for me. If it were my birthday this is what I would want to do. It’s my vision of what I want to do with my free time.”

Fans can expect the disc jam to include a disc golf tournament during the day and music featuring Deputy and several other bands including Legendary, JC’s, funkUs, Greensound, Herd of Watts, Morning Fatty, and Love Chunk. Deputy’s goal for the festival is to mimic a big family event, but with his fellow musician friends and fans rather than relatives.

A disc golf tournaments and music festivals usually do not coincide, but Deputy decided to introduce and advocate the sport to his music fans and vice-versa. “I am hosting this because it’s two of my favorite things together,” Deputy said.

Disc golf is a sport in which the player throws a flying disc at a target. His interest in disc golf began when he was introduced to the sport by his tour manager Brian Giggy, who also owns Explore Disc Golf.

Deputy described this introduction to the sport as an  “instant love affair,” he said. “It’s something that returns you back to base, kind of like fishing- it’s tranquil and you get to work things out in your head and be in your own space. It’s a therapeutic thing for me.
