Flagler women’s basketball is a win away from securing their first ever Peach Belt Conference playoff berth.
A victory over Francis Marion at home Feb. 20 would seal it up, according to Fourth-year Head Coach Erika Lang-Montgomery.
The women are currently in third place in the East Division (12-10), with four games remaining. The top four teams from each division make it to the conference tournament.
“To get to the conference tournament would just be an awesome accomplishment because it would show the theory of perseverance and just sticking with something,” Lang-Montgomery said. “You know, we’ve had some really hard seasons, and just needed to be able to turn it around.”
This turnaround season gives the team hope for the playoffs.
“Our theme for the year was, ‘if it’s meant to be, it’s up to me,'” Lang-Montgomery said, “and so it was really important that everybody bought into our goal and what we were trying to do. To get to the tournament would be that we have accomplished our goal.”
Senior Arianna Roper sees a change in this year’s team.
“It is the first year I can honestly say everyone wants it, and we all are willing to work hard and do what we have to do to be successful,” she said.
