With the Peach Belt Conference tournament starting Nov. 12, Flagler College junior Jillian Unitas says an incredible season for the volleyball team keeps getting better.
“It feels awesome to sit atop the conference standings,” said Unitas, the team’s defensive specialist. “We have worked really hard in our practices and pushed tremendously in our games. It goes to show all our hard work has paid off.”
Last year, the team won the conference championship, became regional champions, and then went on to become semifinalists in the NCAA Division II championships. They look to go even further this year.
“As long as we continue to practice hard and stick together as a team we will be ready for the championships,” senior Meg Weathersby said.
Head Coach Taylor Mott agrees. She said that as long as the team continues to work hard and play as a team, not as individuals, then the success will continue. Having kept that in mind so far this year, the team is now playing its best when it counts.
“It is great to know now that our destiny is now back in our own hands,” Mott said.
The team is currently 11-1 in conference play and 22-7 overall. The conference tournament starts Nov. 12th, in Savannah where Flagler will play a still yet-to-be-determined opponent in the quarterfinals.
“We are all really happy with where we stand, but we still have more important games to play so we need to continue to play well,” Weathersby said.
