There’s a whole crowd in the Flagler Room — chit chatter and giggles all around. A warm and open atmosphere is filling the room. A cast of 23 theatre majors are gathered to rehearse for “The Servant of Two Masters” by Carlo Goldoni. Andrea McCook is directing what she calls “a fast-paced comedy, based on 18th century commedia dell arte.”

The show is modernized through improvisation and is a play within a play. It includes slapstick comedy, soap opera material and a small musical number. Senior Gerard Siegler, the assistant director, has choreographed the “Fricandella” dance, which looks like a funny commercial.

All the food references and plot twists in act one will definitely make you hungry for more.

The playful nature of the production makes it easier for the actors to slip into character and still have fun with it.

Sophomore Kelley Smith, an actress in the show, said, “There’s nothing better than seeing a group of actors so in tune with one another that they can play around in the midst of a show and still come off with a polished product.”

“The Servant of Two Masters” opens in the Flagler College Auditorium, and a preview performance will be presented for the Flagler College community on Thursday, Feb. 22, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $5 at the door.

“Don’t miss an opportunity to be entertained by the madness,” McCook said.

Performances for the public will be on Feb. 23—24 and March 2—3 at 7:30 p.m., and Feb. 25, and March 4, at 2 p.m. Tickets are $10 general admission, $8 for Flagler faculty and staff, and $5 for Flagler students. Tickets are available in the Flagler College Auditorium Box Office beginning Feb. 19 — open Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and one hour prior to curtain.
