Flagler College looks to expand its club program with the addition of a tennis club.
Although it is not officially registered as an official Flagler College club, the tennis club is certainly not lacking in participants.
“The club currently sees on average 35 students at its Wednesday night sessions. We have seen as many as 50 students in one night,” said tennis club president Seth Muse.
The tennis club meets regularly on Wednesday nights at 7:30 at the Flagler College Tennis Center. Additional tennis nights are often held on Fridays. The sponsor of the club is Flagler Intramural Director Mike Roberson. Roberson
coordinates and supervises each tennis night and even provides pizza for the participants to enjoy. A typical Wednesday Tennis Club night features warm-up drills, “king of the court” and singles and doubles matches.
Mike Roberson helps inexperienced players practice with more drills and one-on-one coaching. Contrarily, experienced players have the opportunity to refine their skills with competitive matches.
“The club is an excellent medium for exercise, fun or even preparation for outside tournaments,” says Muse.
In order to participate, students can either reply to Mike Roberson’s weekly email regarding the tennis night or simply show up ready to play with a racket and a positive attitude.
Furthermore, players of all skill levels are encouraged to join in on the weekly tennis nights.
“Our activities allow students of all skill levels to come out and participate,” Muse said.
