Getting to know the seniors: Ashley Lechleidner Rodriguez

There is more than meets the eye though when it comes to Flagler volleyball senior Ashley Lechleidner Rodriguez, who was born in Puerto Rico and moved to Jacksonville at a young age where she played volleyball at Ponte Vedra High School. Out of high school she attended Florida State College of Jacksonville and played for the Blue Wave for two seasons. While at FSCJ Rodriguez pulled off the unthinkable setting a school record with 624 digs in her sophomore season.



Education students weigh whether state tenure laws will force them out of state

The fear of losing a job over performance wasn’t as big a concern for Florida’s teachers in the past. But when the state eliminated tenure for public school teachers in 2011, it left many entering the field of education questioning whether they had a future teaching in Florida. Tenure is a position given to teachers that guarantees the safety of their job until they decide to leave or retire. In 2011, Florida decided to do away with tenure in favor of a system that rewards teachers for student performance on tests.

Saints of the Future: Freshman Volleyball standout Shea Hamilton

At the age of 11, Shea Hamilton had her first chance at trying out for her school’s junior varsity volleyball team. Unfortunately, she was one of the few girls not picked to join the team. Ever since that rejection, she has used it as motivation to look forward to success, which includes a jaw-dropping spike she uses today.
