New ads hinting at domestic violence offends the ‘unoffendable’

One in every four women will experience domestic violence in her lifetime, according to the National Violence Against Women Survey.

This woman could be your sister or mother, your next door neighbor, the cashier at the supermarket, the sales associate who starts you a dressing room. She could be your best friend, your boss’s wife or our co-worker. She could be… the model in an advertisement in our favorite fashion magazine, trying to sell a suit or haircut at the expense of domestic violence?



Blonder looks back on a bike trek across the country

Many people spend the summer lounging on the beach, reading a book and maybe go do some sight seeing. For Flagler College environmental science professor Barbara Blonder, this summer meant bicycling across the country.

Sitting in her office, surrounded by framed pictures of her journey, Blonder is wearing a pair of silver earrings with dangling bicycles and matching necklace, perfectly toned and tan and is glowing with a happiness that explodes into the room.




Men’s soccer team defeats Wingate

The Flagler College Saints bullied their way to a 4-0 victory over the Wingate University Bulldogs, marking the second scoreless game in the past two meetings of the teams.

Zach Shanahan opened up the floodgates, scoring his first goal for the season with a pass from Johan Bergfeld from the middle.


Blackwater Music Festival 2011

Blackwater Music Festival 2011 will be taking place at the Spirit of Suwannee River Music Park on September 22-24. Artists such as Girl Talk, The Flaming Lips, STS9, EOTO and many more will be on stage for the weekend’s mystic lineup.


Croatian basketball player fulfills dream to come to America

Born in Zadar, Croatia, Ante Gospic’s dream was to get a college education in America. “I remember watching American college movies and I wanted to be just like the actors,” said Gospic.
Gospic knew that his only chance of being able to come to America for college was through the game of basketball. “I knew that if I was really good at basketball, then American colleges would recruit me” said Gospic.



Sept. 11, 2001: Looking back on a generation’s loss of certainty

My day started like any goofy middle schooler. I put on my jean shorts, applied a liberal amount of hair gel to perfect the “spiked flip” look, and got in my mother’s mini-van to go to school. It was Sept. 11, 2001, and I was 11 years old.

The first sign anything was amiss came at my locker. Some kid came up and said a plane had struck the World Trade Center. No one believed him. We thought maybe a small Cessna could have crashed into the towers.
