Flagler College senior Donna Munafo is proving that hard work really does pay off.

Munafo spent her high school softball career being the second or third best pitcher for Satellite High School in Satellite Beach, Florida.

The other pitchers on her high school softball team had played softball their entire life, whereas, Munafo focused her younger years on soccer and dance.

Munafo felt that the best way to get an edge on her teammates was to develop mental toughness and a work ethic.

“I always had to work hard, and put in extra time if I wanted to pitch over the other girls,” Munafo said.

Munafo began to shine in her senior year of high school, where she received softball scholarship offers from Flagler College, University of Central Florida, and University of North Florida.

“Choosing Flagler was one of the easiest decisions I have ever made,” Munafo said.

In her first three seasons at Flagler, Munafo helped lead the Saints to their first winning season in school history.

This season, Munafo has been on a tear, helping lead the lady Saints softball team to a 34-12 record with a school record seven shutouts.

She also leads the Peach Belt Conference and is ranked in the top 10 nationally for a staggering 0.81 ERA.

On April 1, Munafo was selected to be the Peach Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week.

This is her second pitcher of the week honors this season.

“There are a lot of very talented pitchers in our conference, so it has been a goal of mine all year to win it at least once,” Munafo said.

Munafo and the lady Saints will be hosting No. 10 ranked Armstrong Atlantic University on Saturday April 7 at 2 p.m. for a doubleheader.
