Shuttles from parking garage to end in October

Flagler College administration recently met with St. Augustine city officials to discuss the shutting down of the shuttle service from the parking garage.

The St. Augustine Record reported on Sept. 4 that the city made a decision to stop the shuttle service sometime in October. The shuttle runs from the Visitor Information Center parking garage on Castillo Drive to Flagler College’s campus.

According to The Record, the city decided to stop the shuttle because the cost of maintaining it was higher than the amount of money being brought in by people who park in the garage.

Ken Russom, Vice President of Business Services at Flagler College, had a meeting with the city on Sept. 4 to discuss the decision. Russom voiced concerns at the meeting about “the safety of the students” at the college.

Russom said another reason Flagler College is looking into this issue is because it was part of the agreement for guaranteed parking that there would be transportation to and from the garage.

The city will hold another meeting with Flagler College administration to “revisit and discuss the issue again,” Russom said.

When asked if the college is looking at other options, Russom was hesitant to say because he was unsure of the current shuttle decision.

It is unknown if the shuttle will stop while other options are being discussed or not.
