Senior basketball players finish season with positive outlook

Seniors Adrienne Donelson and Tierra Ford, of the Flagler College women’s basketball team, finished their final season with satisfaction and aspirations for the future.

Donelson may be soft spoken but is not timid when it comes to the court. She is a player full of energy, which was seen numerous times during her four year career with Flagler. As a starter for the team, she was a great asset in scoring and in rebounds.

“Adrienne is the leading shot blocker in this school’s history,” said Erika Lang-Montgomery, head coach of the women’s basketball team. “We will miss her on the court.”

Donelson is no stranger in putting points on the board and was pleased with her performance here at Flagler. There is no desire to continue on with her basketball career after this season.

“Now I am just waiting to get my degree,” Donelson said. “I have worked hard and learned a lot from both my coaches.”

Donelson finished out her season alongside Ford, who joined the team this year. Ford transferred from Missouri to Flagler College not only for basketball, but also for Flagler’s sports management program. Though she was the new player on the block, Ford had a positive outlook on the season.

“I feel good about it,” Ford said. “All the girls are really nice and took me in.”

Lang-Montgomery was very pleased with the performance of Ford and explained how her efforts on the court may not have always shown on the score board, but did affect the outcome of the game.

“[Ford] gets many of the deflections, and creates turnovers for the other team,” Lang-Montgomery said. “We will miss her defensive presence on the floor as well as her ability to score inside.”

Both players will be graduating in fall 2011 with Ford majoring in sports management and Donelson in secondary education.
