The men’s and women’s soccer teams both advance to the Peach Belt Conference semifinals.
A scoreless first half forced the women’s team into overdrive as they netted three second-half goals to erase Georgia College’s 1-0 lead. Andrea Fernandez netted 2 goals, leading off the scoring with a 30-yard free-kick in the 52nd minute to tie the match at 1-1.
In the 58th minute, Fernandez found Annie Habeeb for the header to put the Saints up 2-1. Habeeb’s goal put her into sole possession of second all-time career goals, passing Charlene Nowotny, with 37 career goals.
The 17th ranked Saints were not done there — Fernandez scored her 14th goal of the season that extended the lead to 3-1. A garbage-time goal for Georgia College was not enough as the Saints took a 3-2 victory.
The men’s team came out strong and did not disappoint as they thoroughly dismantled the Georgia Southwestern Hurricanes 3-0.
Joran Osland and Matteo Costa combined for a beautiful header off of an Osland corner kick to lead off the scoring in the 14th minute. Osland was not done there and extended the Saints lead on an electric free kick in the 20th minute.
The Saints didn’t score again until the 86th minute thanks to a beautiful assist from Al Cooper to set up Paul Hansen’s first goal in a Flagler uniform. Andrea Lubbia notched his 3rd shutout of the season as the men join the women in advancing to the PBC Semifinals.
Both teams move onto the PBC Tournament semifinals in Evans, Georgia on Friday. The women will kick off at 8 p.m. against Lander and the Men will face off against top-ranked Young Harris.
