Get ready to strap on the feed bag and lace up your dancing shoes because St. Augustine’s annual Rhythm and Ribs Festival is back in town.
The festival will begin on Friday, March 26 and run through Sunday, March 28 featuring award winning barbeque from all over as well as live music from a variety of different bands. Tickets will be $2 all day Friday and Sunday and $5 after 5 p.m. on Saturday.
On Friday the gates will open at 5 p.m. and close at 10 p.m.; Saturday from 11 a.m. through 10 p.m., and on Sunday from 11 a.m. through 5 p.m. The event is being held at Francis Field, US 1 and Castillo Drive.
The headliner this year will be Dave Mason, former member of the band Traffic, who was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004. Mason has played with a mixture of the most influential musicians of all time, from Michael Jackson to Fleetwood Mac, his most notable song being “Feelin’ Alright.” He is set to play Saturday night from 8 to 10 p.m.
Rhythm and Ribs has been voted as St. Augustine’s best festival for nine years in a row, pulling in over 20 thousand people from all over to take in the music, food and vendor shopping.
St. Augustine’s Sunrise Rotary is presenting the festival, with Mark Litzinger as the chair. With the profits of the event, the Rotary Club is able to donate to charities such as the Betty Griffin House and the Boys & Girls Club as well as many others.
“We’re hoping to raise a good amount of money this year,” Litzinger said. “Hopefully between 50 to 70 thousand and all the profits will be donated to various charities.”
Unless the weather really opens up, the festival is scheduled to continue rain or shine.
