Professional soccer wins at Flagler

Around 500 fans flocked to see professional soccer in St Augustine on Friday night. If you missed the match, there will be another chance.

The Atlanta Beat, an expansion team in Women’s Professional Soccer, defeated the U.S. Under-20 Women’s National Team 2-0 at Flagler Field Complex.

The Beat will play the Boston Breakers, another WPS team, on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Flagler Field Complex.

In addition, the Beat will hold practice at 10 a.m. on Tuesday morning at Flagler Field Complex. The practice is open for the public to observe.

The Beat has a solid core of skilled Americans and a deep pool of international talent.

The Breakers have several Women’s National Team players, including Kristine Lilly who is the world’s all time appearance leader in international play. Lilly has been a key member of the WNT for over twenty years.

Tony DiCicco coaches the Breakers and is the most successful coach in U.S. soccer history.
DiCicco left the WNT with a 103-8-8 record, the most wins for any national team coach in U.S. soccer history.

While coaching Lilly, DiCicco’s team famously won the 1999 World Cup against China in front of over 90,000 fans at the Rose Bowl, the largest crowd for any women’s sports event in history.

Yet DiCicco, Lilly, and many of world’s best soccer players will be at Flagler Field Complex on Tuesday night.
