Panamanian midfielder arrives at Flagler with high expectations

Jean Carlos Vega just arrived to Flagler College this semester and he’s already showcased his talent. This talented, Panamanian player is just beginning to display what he knows.

Vega started playing soccer when he was just five years old. He went to his father’s games and saw him play. Observing his father’s games motivated him to start playing soccer.

Since he started playing soccer, he has played on many teams. He played for Mandarin High School, First Coast, Jax United and Thomasville University.

“Competition in Panama is much different from here, in Panama is more running without the ball and more technical,” Vega said.

The way Vega made his dream of playing for Flagler College was by contacting head coach John Lynch of the men’s soccer team. He sent him an email and Lynch saw his talent.

“My main goal with Flagler College is to win a national tournament,” Vega said.

Vega’s dream is to also make it to the pros. He said he thinks he has a chance if the right people, in the right place and in the right time, see him.

So far this semester, the Flagler College soccer team has played two games against UNF and Stetson University. Both were important victories.
