Nobfest wants to keep your ears busy this weekend

Thirty-six bands from all over the country, playing everything from punk rock to folk porch-core, are scheduled to play Shanghai Nobby’s from March 23 to the 25. Owner, Dave Wernicke describes Nobfest as a comfortable environment for tunes.

“People come into my living room and play for me,” he said.

Local punk rock band, The Resonants, enjoy the bands that play at Nobby’s.

“This is pretty much the only bar in St. Augustine lets us have really good bands,” said lead singer Charlie Solana.

Musician Andrew Virgas, of The Cougs, agrees.

“people should come see good music and to support a venue that’s actually helping out touring musicians.”

Nobby’s has always given door money collected at the shows to bands on tour so that they can reach their next destination.

The festival is meant to bring in many local and touring bands that used to frequent the bar before they were forced to shut down for fourteen months.

“We just got our liquor license back,” Wernicke said. “I thought maybe a three-day festival would be like a good fun show and a good money maker for us.”

Performances will be held all day long and those interested can pick and choose which days to attend, as well as purchase a three-day pass for the event.
