Flagler students might actually have a reason to stick around on the weekends this year. The college has created a Campus Activities Board so students will have more campus events to participate in both day and night.
According to Carrie Meyer, advisor of the new Campus Activities Board, there will be three committees — one for student performances, one for on-campus events and one for weekend events.
“I would like to see more students entertained enough on the weekends that they will consider staying on campus instead of traveling home,” Meyer said.
The board will be putting together events every semester to get students more involved with school activities, especially on the weekends.
For this semester no events have been planned yet, but the board would like to host game shows, open mic nights, de-stress days, coffee house type activities and poetry readings.
Events that Flagler has every semester, like the formal, will be hosted by the board instead of the usual Student Government Association, which will remain the governing body with the board handling the activities.
Meyer said students should not be afraid to give any input on what events they would like to see happen on or off campus.
