Mandy Sloan has a unique, beautiful voice that captures interest in her pop/folk music.
Sloan plays at Flavors Restaurant Tuesdays from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and at Caddyshack Restaurant on Thursdays from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
Sloan started to learn how to play the acoustic guitar in seventh grade when her brother wanted to. She thought it was cool. With a mother who is a music and voice teacher and pianist and a father who plays the guitar and writes music, no wonder she has great talent.
Sloan has always enjoyed singing. She started journaling and writing lyrics when she moved as a sophomore in high school.
At first, Sloan was shy about singing in front of an audience but, with the encouragement of her brother, she was able to become accustomed to it.
“You told me you love me in a whisper I won’t forget, but when I tried to reply I could not find the words that I meant.” These are the opening lyrics to one of Sloan’s favorite songs, I’m Shy.
She wrote it, “When I was finding who I was and trying to be more open with people,” Sloan said. “This part of me just wanted to play because I love to play. It’s a talent you’re given and it’s a blessing to share your talent with them.”
Fans appreciate her voice and lyrics. “I do love Mandy’s voice. It is very raw and naturally beautiful,” said fan, Emily Christy. “I also think that she is a very talented writer and musician.”
Fan, Liza Dixon said her interesting and meaningful lyrics add personality to her songs. “Mandy is a talented songwriter with a beautifully unconventional voice,” Dixon said. “Her honest, sweet lyrics are an insight into the genuine person that she is.”
Her newly released CD, Fall is sold at her shows and is expected to be released on iTunes and Amazon in April. She is grateful for the opportunity to get to play and open up for people. She would like to play as much as possible and see where it goes. A record deal would be ideal.
