Men’s soccer carries momentum into playoffs

Head coach John Lynch of the men’s soccer team says he likes to have momentum heading into the opening round of the Peach Belt Tournament.

“It’s our third year in a row heading into the postseason with a five game winning streak; it shows the depth of the team,” Lynch said.

The Flagler men’s soccer team is currently on a five-game winning streak after beating conference opponent Francis Marion 3-1 on Saturday.

“We have the talent, skill and the passion,” Ned Hunt, the assistant coach of the men’s soccer team, said. “We just have to make sure we can transfer it to the field.”

The Saints currently have a record of 12-3-1 heading into postseason play. Hunt said they have a lot more depth this year instead of just being 11 strong. They can go to the bench and play about five or six guys and not miss a step in the game.

“The ability to make a run into the NCAA consists of a number of things, a little bit is luck. Hopefully, we can avoid people getting hurt,” Hunt said. “We need to prove ourselves on communicating. We have to work as a team.”

“The winning streak has a tremendous impact on the team heading into the post-season,” said Junior Midfielder Joseph Toby.

The Saints can advance to the next round of the Peach Belt Tournament if they are able to win in their opening round match against North Georgia College and State University on Nov. 2 at 7 p.m.
