Saints have won eight of their past 12 games after slow start

With the Saints men’s basketball team just eight games away from the end of season, the team is still pushing for a positive outcome.
“Although our regional record of 7-7 is deceiving, the teams we have played are good — very well coached,” Head Coach Bo Clark said.
Clark says the team needs to keep working on rebounding, although, the team as a whole, and in particular, seniors Jon Matthews and Ben De La Cruz, have, “shown a great amount of maturity on the court — they have had great mature seasons. Our rebounding has improved.”
The last few games, the Saints have had a difficult time with late turnovers, something that has hurt their current mark.
The team has an overall record of 9-10, and competing in a Div. II league, have had no nights off.
Clark said, “You got to come to play every night and I think we have. We’ve really battled people down to the last possession.”
With the team having stretches of being off for 10 to 12 days at a time, they have had to try hard to keep a sense of continuity.
Being in the middle of the hardest season he has faced in the past 22 years of coaching, Clark said he feels as though this group has played hard and they have done a great job.
“I am really proud of the way we’ve battled,” Clark said, as he was thinking back on the season’s tough competition.
What does one of the Saints players have to say about the season?
John Pietkiewicz, second-year guard said, “So far it has been an up and down year, and we have an OK record, but we feel like we are much better than what our record shows and look forward to finishing out the season strong.”
Clark said, “Our score may be deceiving, but we’re doing things that have even surprised me.”
“I’m hoping we can have a good last stretch of the season.”
The Saints’ last home game, on Feb. 21, will honor the seniors’ last game at Flagler.
