Men’s soccer team prepares for long home stand

By Brian Vigna | bvigna@flagler.edu

Flagler’s men’s soccer program is at a crossroads with a five-game losing streak and half of the season left.

The team began the season hoping to build on the late season success from last year, but suffered a 0-3 loss on opening night to Eckerd College.

Flagler fell to No. 20 (NAIA) Savannah College of Art and Design 4-0 on Sept. 29 in a non-conference home game. SCAD outshot Flagler 20-6 and held a 6-3 edge in corner kicks as they dropped the men to 0-8-1.

With half of the season left, the team has an opportunity to make some changes and possibly come out at .500 this season.

With a four-game home stand coming up, the Saints are motivated and ready to make this season count.

In his ninth season as head coach, John Lynch has a solid team in his command, with the remainder of last year’s letter-winning players returning.

As well as many returning players, some new student athletes have been added to the roster.

The highlight of the season so far has been the double overtime tie to Embry-Riddle University on Sept. 4.

The Saints take on Palm Beach Atlantic Oct. 2 in St. Augustine at 7 p.m., and then Thomas University Oct. 6 at home at 7 p.m.
