Florida college students will see their wallets fattened now that the state legislature has increased the Florida Resident Access Grant to $3,000 per student.
The so-called FRAG was created in 1979 by the Florida Legislature to assist Florida residents attending private colleges and universities in the state. The $3,000 dollars awarded per student this year is the highest amount in the history of the grant, according to the Independent Colleges and Universities of Florida.
More than half of the students attending Flagler College received the FRAG last year, according to Flagler’s Financial Aid Office. To be eligible for the FRAG, a student must have been a resident or have a parent be a resident of Florida for one year prior to the first day of classes. The FRAG is only awarded to full-time students and is funded by the Florida Legislature, which sets the amount each year.
