The Gargoyle, Flagler College’s online-only student newspaper, won five awards in the Society of Professional Journalists Region 3 Mark of Excellence awards.
The publication won the “Best Digital-Only Student Publication” and “Best Independent Online Student Publication” awards, and will advance in those categories to SPJ’s national awards competition. In addition, three Flagler College students were finalists in their categories:
• Katie Garwood, “Online Feature Reporting,” for “Somebody to Lean On”
• Montana Samuels, “Online News Reporting” for “Hundreds of homeless students in St. Johns County”
• Carie Levy, “Online Opinion & Commentary” for:
“Anxiety: The invisible illness”
“Body shaming in modern culture”
“Stripping heroes of their rightful honor”
