Four Years Later: Fall Out Boy fans still as dedicated as ever

urlOn Monday morning, the news that people had been anticipating for four years finally came to light—Fall Out Boy was back together. Speakers and stereos were blasted in celebration as people reminisced over their favorite band from their high school years. The end of this hiatus was nothing short of a miracle.

The band, led by bassist Pete Wentz, announced Monday that they would be releasing a new album on May 7th of this year. The album (Save Rock and Roll) will feature the new sounds that the band has been working on. According to Rollingstone.com, the album will also have the new single, complete with their signature long title, that they released ending their break, “My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark (Light ‘Em Up).

Fall Out Boy, which formed in 2001, reached stardom in 2005 after making the Billboard Hot 100 with their hit single “Sugar We’re Goin’ Down” and remained popular before the members decided to take a break and pursue their solo careers in 2009. At the time, they never announced when and if the hiatus would end. It was simply stated by the band members that they were worn out and wanted to follow other projects. In 2012, rumors began to circulate amongst the press and other musicians alike that the band was getting back together, but the group members denied all of these statements.

While apart, the group developed solo careers. In 2009 after announcing their break, guitarist Joe Trohman and drummer Andy Hurley started the group “The Damned Things.” Just a year later in 2010, Pete Wentz began the group “Black Cards,” a mix between ska, reggae and British pop. The group never developed an album, and eventually dissolved into a mere DJ pairing. At around this time, front man Patrick Stump failed to develop a steady solo career and labeled himself in early 2012 as a “27-year-old has been.” With the reforming of the band, though, all of that is about to change.

Upon ending their hiatus, the band announced tour dates across the globe. They will be touring beginning in early February, and include two stops in Florida. The first is in Orlando on June 4 at the House of Blues, the second in Miami on June 5 at the Fillmore. Tickets for both of these concerts will be on sale on February 8th and 9th. Their early show dates that were announced at the end of their break have already been sold out. The band will also be performing on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on February 13th. Their album can be pre-ordered now at their website, falloutboyrock.com.
