Flagler volleyeball sweeps past Lander to move on to conference championship

Behind strong play from Dianna Craine, Flagler College women’s volleyball swept Lander University 3-0 (25-18, 25-18, 25-12) in a Peach Belt Conference Tournament semifinal match Nov. 17 at Flagler Gymnasium.

Flagler improved to 22-9 on the season, and more importantly advances to the conference championship match against top-seeded Armstrong Atlantic State University on Nov. 18 at 2 p.m.

Craine recorded a team-best 15th double-double of the season with a match-high 13 kills and 12 digs

Craine, a first-team all-conference selection, added three service aces. Crystal Niederriter and Sophie Meyer combined for 20 kills with each recording 10. Emilee Taylor, a first-team all-conference pick, had nine kills and 11 digs. Casey Gnann, collected a match-high 15 digs. Amelia Morgan tallied 43 assists.

The Saints sprinted out to a 14-4 lead, but the Bearcats battled back to close to within three (16-13) after an ace by Kubal. Flagler would follow with a 5-1 run to put Lander away 25-18.

The Bearcats took a quick 5-1 lead on the Saints in the second set, but fought back to take the lead for good (16-15) on a pair of Craine kills. Craine finished with six kills in the set and hit .600 without committing an error on 10 swings.

Flagler used an early 10-1 run to erase a one-point deficit and take control of the set at 14-6. The Saints captured the set 25-12 to take the match. Craine added five more kills and .556 in the set.
