First Coast News anchor visits Flagler College

First Coast News co-anchor and 12-time Emmy winner Jeannie Blaylock recently visited Flagler College to speak to students and faculty. Her address highlighted a few of her journalism experiences, insight into the industry and career advice for young reporters.

“Pursue this career [journalism] to help people,” Blaylock said. “On the local level, you can really get to know the people you’re helping. You can make a difference in their lives.”

Blaylock also talked about her experience covering disasters such as Hurricane Katrina, the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing and the 1981 Hyatt Regency Hotel collapse in Missouri that killed 113 people.

“There’s nothing like being in the heart of what’s going on,” Blaylock said. “You can see it on TV or read about it in the newspaper, but it’s so different when you’re actually there.”

The event was hosted by the college’s chapter of The Society of Professional Journalists.
