Fans find Jack Johnson tickets hard to come by

When it was announced that Jack Johnson would make his one and only stop in Florida at the St. Augustine Amphitheatre with ALO later in the spring, fans knew they needed to act quickly to land a ticket to the show.

The tickets went on sale to the public Jan. 30 at 10 a.m. and were sold out online by 10:05 a.m. This was the fastest a show had ever sold out at the amphitheatre, according to General Manager Ryan Murphy.

There were several pre-sales available through different clubs and organizations tied to Johnson. But those who weren’t a part of those groups waited by the computer or in line patiently the morning of Jan. 30 in hopes of getting a ticket to the show. Online tickets sold out within five minutes; those waiting in line at the amphitheatre and Ponte Vedra Concert Hall had better luck.

“We had a certain amount of tickets we held for people that had waited in line since two in the morning. There were a good number of people who got tickets,” Murphy said.

Those who did not get tickets when they went on sale are less fortunate. The tickets were capped at four per person to make sure there would be no scalping or any other way of selling tickets at a higher price online. It is a paperless event for most of the seating, meaning that ticketholders must provide the credit card used for purchase and their valid ID in order to gain entry to the venue.

Flagler College senior Tayler Quick was surprised by how quickly tickets sold out.

“In the past I’ve always been able to order them online a couple days after they’ve been on sale,” Quick said. “Instead of being in the venue I’ll be enjoying the music from my friend’s house across the street this time.”

Along with putting a stop to scalping, the amphitheatre is also working to facilitate green initiatives for the venue. Some of the initiatives that the amphitheater has already implemented, such as recycling, will now be highlighted even more as they work with Johnson and his crew to promote eco-friendly touring practices and plastic-free initiatives.

The amphitheatre is also encouraging carpooling to the show and will be setting up bike-friendly options such as valets to cut down on carbon emissions.

The show will take place at the St. Augustine Amphitheatre on May 20 as part of Johnson’s From Here To Now To You promotion tour.
