Most students on Halloween weekend are thinking parties, costumes and candy, but if you’re a college football fan, the only thing you have on your mind is the Florida-Georgia game in Jacksonville on Saturday, Oct. 30.

“The history, greatness and tradition of the event makes me really excited,”
said junior Katie Price. “Especially to go and see the Bulldogs win!”

What most students are unaware of is that Florida-Georgia does not just start the day of the game, but there are many events that lead up until kickoff when the Gators take on the Bulldogs.

The Jacksonville Landing has live entertainment starting Thursday, Oct. 28, at 5 p.m. On Oct. 29 they continue with their entertainment starting at 6 p.m. The day of the game there will be entertainment all day, as well as the Florida-Georgia game on the Jumbotron.

Starting on Friday, Oct. 29, right outside of Everbank Field’s south end zone in the Pepsi plaza, is a free event called Gridiron Get Down. From 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. there will be free concerts including Grammy-nominated artist Jake Owen. You also have the opportunity to ride a mechanical bull, have air guard challenges and enjoy food and beverages. Parking is only $5 in the sports complex area.

If you are a die hard Florida-Georgia fan then you might want to get to the Pepsi plaza outside the south end zone a little bit earlier on Friday. The Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony begins at 12:30 p.m. and the admission is free. From the University of Georgia there will be Zeke Bratkowski and Knox Culpepper. From the University of Florida there will be Wilber Marshall and Scot Brantley.

River City Brewing Company will have live entertainment Thursday and Friday night from 5 p.m. until they close. Following the football game they will encourage students to dance the night away with DJ PJ Guy. On Sunday from 10:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. they will have their infamous brunch, which will fill up the stomachs of those who were out celebrating a victory or loss the night before.

If you happen to be stuck outside the stadium without a ticket you don’t have to worry because on game day, Oct. 30, there are plenty of events by Adams Street and the Pepsi plaza that will keep you occupied. Touchdown Showdown begins at 10 a.m. and goes until the end of the game.

There will be two LED screens so you won’t have to miss a second of the game. There will also be the traditional tailgating games like football ladder toss, corn hole and bocce ball. There will be custom photo booths, Florida-Georgia merchandise, food vendors, beverage booths, face painting and much more.

For the men there is a golf driving cage, Rock Band, XBOX gaming area and they can check out the Jacksonville Suns new 2010 Southern League Championship trophy. For the ladies you can get your face painted with your team’s colors, a Paul Mitchell hair braiding with your team’s colors, handmade flip flops and accessories and game day dresses in team colors.

Whether you are in the stands or outside the stadium, Florida-Georgia weekend will be full of events for you to attend. For more information about the events in Jacksonville visit www.flga.org.
