Getting to know the seniors: Ashley Lechleidner Rodriguez

There is more than meets the eye though when it comes to Flagler volleyball senior Ashley Lechleidner Rodriguez, who was born in Puerto Rico and moved to Jacksonville at a young age where she played volleyball at Ponte Vedra High School. Out of high school she attended Florida State College of Jacksonville and played for the Blue Wave for two seasons. While at FSCJ Rodriguez pulled off the unthinkable setting a school record with 624 digs in her sophomore season.

Saints of the Future: Freshman Volleyball standout Shea Hamilton

At the age of 11, Shea Hamilton had her first chance at trying out for her school’s junior varsity volleyball team. Unfortunately, she was one of the few girls not picked to join the team. Ever since that rejection, she has used it as motivation to look forward to success, which includes a jaw-dropping spike she uses today.

For English tennis player Kelly Burgis, the move from the United Kingdom to the Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in Tifton, Ga., turned out to be a big culture shock. Saints volleyball’s strong start continues

Losing a home opener to start off a season that was arguably filled with the highest expectations in recent memory isn’t easy, but that changed when the women’s volleyball team fell to Sioux Falls. While most programs would re-evaluate and think about what kind of season lied ahead, Coach Matt Affolder and his seniors charged into the Flagler Invite where they defeated every team put in front of them decisively.



Game on: A preview of Flagler’s fall sports

As always there is much anticipation to see how each team is going to perform and which players will standout from the rest of the pack. The career-ender: For baseball players, labrum tears still one of most debilitating

Michael Gaither sat in the doctor’s office massaging his right shoulder. He lightly moved it in a circle stretching it, testing it. His shoulder had been causing him pain as he threw, and had had been getting worse every day for several weeks. Gaither said he first noticed discomfort his freshman season playing baseball at Triton Junior College in Illinois. It finally got to the point where he needed to get it checked. His fastball — once hitting 90 mph — was now only touching the low 80s, a huge difference for a college pitcher.
