Flagler Film Festival to showcase independent films

Gregory von Hausch, director of the Flagler Film Festival, said the goal of the festival, is drawn simply in the Fort Lauderdale Film Festival’s slogan: “Vacation from ordinary films.”

The four-day event begins on Sept. 30 and concludes on Oct. 3 and all of the films are shown on Flagler campus. It is a spin-off of the Fort Lauderdale festival and will continue on a three year cycle.



How to prepare for finals

With finals approaching, students are preparing for all night study sessions and lack of sleep.

There are those who wait until the last minute. They try and crunch in a semester’s worth of reading the night before, while others study a few hours here and there the week prior.


Seniors struggle in job search

According to the Washington Post, a typical college graduating class has 10 percent of its students graduating without a job or predetermined plan, but last year that number rose to 40 percent. Four Flagler College students weigh in on their job search and plan upon their April 24 graduation.


SGA chooses new leaders for Fall

At the April 6 meeting, Student Government Association decided the committee leaders of next semester.

First Chair Leadership Team elections were held and all members were eligible for a position. There are five different SGA committee chairs that students could run for.


SGA holds ‘Dodge for Dogs and Kitties’

This year, the Student Government Association is holding “Dodge for Dogs and Kitties” which will help efforts to finding animals a good home. This event will not only raise money and awareness, but students will be having fun playing dodgeball and supporting a good cause.

“Our goal is to raise awareness to help give to a worthy cause, plus its fun, were working hard to brings students together,” said Stephanie Hyland, SGA first chair of community service.



New Leaf: SIFE grows greener future with ‘Conservation Cadets’

DOW Advantage partnered with Learn to Read to help promote and raise awareness of the annual Kiss the Pig event.

On Saturday, the KTP contest will take place during the Rhythm and Ribs Festival at Francis Field from 2 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. LTR of St. Johns County, Inc. tutors fast track reading, math, English for Speaking for Other Languages (ESOL) classes and helps with preparation with GED and Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) testing. LTR tutored over 300 students last year.


SGA executive GPA requirement passes

The amendment to the Flagler constitution stating Student Government Association executives must have above a 2.5 GPA passed on Tuesday, March 23. A clause was added to the amendment that renders it effective starting with next year’s SGA elections.

Jim Stiller, head of academics committee, announced that the faculty senate ended up turning down SGA’s new attendance policy proposal.
