The fear of losing a job over performance wasn’t as big a concern for Florida’s teachers in the past. But when the state eliminated tenure for public school teachers in 2011, it left many entering the field of education questioning whether they had a future teaching in Florida. Tenure is a position given to teachers that guarantees the safety of their job until they decide to leave or retire. In 2011, Florida decided to do away with tenure in favor of a system that rewards teachers for student performance on tests.
Starting a business requires hours of headaches, long nights and venturing into the unknown. When pursing entrepreneurship there are many tasks that must be accomplished: the development of services or products, the creation of the website, incorporation of the brand name, marketing, investments, business store front, equipment, and the list goes on.
For most college students, having a pair of rain boots isn’t a necessity. But in St. Augustine, for students who aren’t equipped with rain gear, the frequent flooding of streets and sidewalks will prove to be a nuisance.
The Spanish ship, El Galeon, took off from St. Augustine Municipal Marina in late September, sailing off toward new ports that include Costa Rica and eventually back to Spain. El Galeon was built in 2009 as a replica of a 17th century Spanish ship. The ship was built in Huelva, Spain, and was finished in Sevilla, where many of the crew are from.
