Correspondent brings prophesies to Flagler

White House correspondent for the Washington Examiner, Julie Mason came to Flagler to talk about the recent midterm election, saying that the polls were right for once – the Republicans “won big” and took the House of Representatives with a majority.

Mason’s catchphrase is “If politicians can’t be honest, they should at least be entertaining.” She said at her Flagler College forum on November 4, “Politicians are such wacky characters. They’re always so interesting.”


Facebook ‘Groups’ give users more control

If an employer looked up Asierleigh Hatfield on Facebook, they would find a clean, smiling picture, a list of interests and a list of previous status updates. From her profile, it may seem that she does not share a lot of information on Facebook but thanks to the new Groups application, she has used the social network to her advantage.


Rhett’s Piano Bar brings it to St. Aug.

Gin and tonic in hand, I felt like a queen sitting in the velvet booths at Rhett’s on Friday night.

The piano bar had its grand opening on Friday, October 29, and a nice crowd showed up to celebrate, most in full costume.


Local animal shelter raises funds to buy sanctuary

A pack of misfit dogs meet you at the gate when you enter Goliath and BeBe’s World sanctuary in Madison County, according to Michelle Mackie who is in charge of dog adoptions.

One of these dogs is Franny, who has three and a half legs after her mother chewed the bottom part of one leg off. With the property being in foreclosure, over 300 animals like Franny will be homeless.

My scientific adventure

As an environmental science student at a Liberal Arts college, I don’t get much experience in my field.

To combat this loss of information and resources, I decided to head down to Ponce Inlet, Fla. and check out the Marine Science Center. I can honestly say I learned more in two and a half hours at the center than I have in the six science courses I’ve taken at Flagler College.
