One night last month, Tom Holland heard gunshots in his quiet neighborhood.
The retired policeman said he heard them twice. “It was definitely a semi-automatic and it was definitely coming from this parking lot over here,” Holland said.
The Gargoyle took second place for Best Independent Online Student Publication in the Society of Professional Journalists 2010 Region 3 Mark of Excellence Awards. In addition, Gargoyle Co-Editor Cal Colgan won first place for Online Opinion and Commentary and third place for Online Feature Reporting, while Co-Editor Caroline Young took third place for Online Feature Reporting.

For Flagler College junior Joshua Weaver, TOMS shoes are more than casual and comfortable shoes that complete every outfit and represent personal style—they promote a worthy cause that affects everyone, from the first world to the third.
“I first heard about TOM shoes when I was a senior in high school [in 2008],” he said. “I had a friend in a band that was sponsored by TOM shoes. I read their mission statement, loved their style and the one for one business model. I thought: ‘I love that idea. I’m going to buy them.’ ”
