B.O.T.L to make a difference

Campus Activities Board announced Bands On The Lawn, a free outdoor concert scheduled for tonight at 6 p.m. on the West Lawn.

The concert is free, but event organizers will be collecting monetary donations for Haiti relief. The artists as well as CAB members agreed that all proceeds would go towards helping Haiti victims in their time of need. So come on out and enjoy the show by simply bringing lawn chairs or blankets and preparing to rock out!

Music: 311 Day

For a band that formed in the sticks of Omaha, Neb., to have their own holiday seems rare. 311 is a band consisting of Nick Hexum as lead vocals, S.A Martinez as vocals/disc jockey, Tim Mahoney on lead guitar, P-nut on bass, and Chad Sexton on the drums. The five have released twelve CDs, three DVDs, and have hit top charts over seventeen times. In 2000, the band played a show in the city of New Orleans that changed everything for them. They went from small town band to big rock stars.

The Definition of Family

Fam-i-ly: 1b. Two or more people who are or are not related by blood that share common goals and values and have long-term commitments to each other.

For so much of my life, the word family had a negative connotation to it. Both of my parents are one of five children, and I have 24 first cousins. I grew up knowing all of them, but there was constant turbulence with people in my bloodline. So many of my relatives on both sides were and are complete jerks.

Learning to love again

I hate to say it, but I think Barenaked Ladies might be better off (at least in terms of radio play) without Steven Page.

As recent as a month ago, if you had shown me the above sentence and told me it was something I was going to write, I would have told you you were nuts. But that was before I heard the new Barenaked Ladies single, “You Run Away.”

Taking It to Your Grave

Over the course of my life, I’ve learned that the one true test of any kind of love is time.

Everyone, including myself, says the word “forever” when they’re in it. We think our relationship will survive all of the highs and lows, fights and times when we’re apart. We think that it’s impossible to feel any less and that we’ll always feel that way. We shout our love from the rooftops for all to hear. We think that we’ve finally found the love we’ve been looking for our whole lives.

Choosing Your Own Basepath

Relationships are like base-running.

Yes, I know baseball season is over, but many recent events have reaffirmed how important it is to make choices that you want, not what anyone else wants. And it sparked yet another Kim Hartman baseball-life analogy.

Ultimate Saint: Volleyball dreams come true

Tonight was a must-win for the Saints, and they played like it. The entire match was close, and the pace was set in the first 10 minutes when neither team had a lead of more than two points.

There were quite a few tips as opposed to kills, and that was very bothersome.

From the First to Final Pitch

The Phillies lost the 2009 World Series last night. I watched the whole game, from the first to final painful pitch. It brought me back to 1993, when Mitch Williams gave up the Series-winning homerun to Joe Carter. The experience was just as heart-breaking as it was when I was 10 years old.

Growing up near Philadelphia, I had first started following the Phillies at 6 years old. I continued to track the team throughout elementary school and beyond. Box scores, players, stats and stories.
