MOVIE REVIEW: Avatar

By Lawrence Griffin | gargoyle@flagler.edu

When I first saw the blue alien creatures interacting in this film, I thought it was pretty silly.

But I knew James Cameron (director of Terminator, Aliens, Terminator 2, True Lies and Titanic) wouldn’t just serve up any crap, so I kept my mind open and sure enough, the film had completely engrossed me in its fantastic landscapes and captivating characters.

MOVIE REVIEW: Up in the Air

By Lawrence Griffin | gargoyle@flagler.edu

Jason Reitman’s Up in the Air is not just a good film, not just one of the very best of the last few years, but another stake to Reitman’s claim to becoming one of the best directors in the film world. After enjoying his previous film Thank You for Smoking, which is one of my favorite movies, I was incredibly excited to see this one. It delivered with the force of an eighteen-wheel truck.

MOVIE REVIEW: The Book of Eli

By Lawrence Griffin | gargoyle@flagler.edu

The world is in ruins. Nothing is safe. Gary Oldman runs a city and limps around like he has a wooden leg, and who will save us now?

Denzel Washington, in the Hughes Brothers’ new post-apocalyptic thriller “The Book of Eli,” just might be the man for the job in his trek across the world to the mysterious West. Washington is in possession of the last Bible on Earth after nuclear disaster ruined the planet.

By Kaitlyn Teabo | kteabo@flagler.edu

The haunting myths and legends of historic St. Augustine inspired graphic novelist Andre Frattino to write and illustrate a fictitious graphic novel centered on the city and Flagler College.

“Flagler’s Few and The Reaper of Saint George Street” brings three Flagler College students and a wannabe pirate together. When a murderous poltergeist begins lurking around St. Augustine, these “few” must pull together and save the city.

For Cassandra Helton, the owner of The Closet and designer of Helton Hill, the 4th annual Big Trunk Show at Café 11 is a huge event. The show allows local clothing, screen-print, jewelry and accessory designers to display and sell their wares to everyone who visits Café Eleven on the night in question. This year, that night happened to be Nov. 12.

MOVIE REVIEW: 2012

By Lawrence Griffin | gargoyle@flagler.edu

2012 features huge explosions of the earth as it falls apart. Roland Emmerich has pretty much created the be-all-end-all disaster film. Anything else he does will just seem like a regression now, because the scope of this film is just too huge for it to be topped again.
