Students take interest in skydiving

Flagler College Senior Kory Duffy faced fear head-on, jumping out of a plane at 14,000 feet plummeting toward Earth.

“Skydiving is unbelievable,” Duffy said. “There are no other words to describe it. I think every college student should experience this while their young.”


Students thread campus fabric with personal fashion, style

Just because New York Fashion Week is over, doesn’t mean that the fashion stops. Is it possible for a college to have a certain fashion “look?” Everyone has his or her own style, and that’s what makes up the fabric of a campus’s individuality.

Flagler College has a unique style on campus, and students from the University of Central Florida and Florida State University agree that their campuses have a certain style look.




Flavors adds some flavor

Walking into a low lit room filled with paper lanterns hanging from the ceiling and Christmas lights hanging from the walls, Flavors Eatery has the right ambiance for a night filled with Indie-acoustic sounds.

Sitting at a small table next to the stage set up in the corner, I watch two musicians doing what they love. Mandy Sloan, a 20-year-old musician, plays acoustic guitar and adds her raspy vocals to her set. Sloan plays her own music well as some well-known favorites such as Coldplay’s “Yellow.”


Farmers market vendor squeezes all-natural ingredients into lemonade

The farmers market that takes place Wednesdays at the St. Johns County Pier and Saturdays at the St. Augustine Amphitheatre gives students, locals and tourists a chance to sample what St. Augustine has to offer- including a vendor serving all-natural lemonade.

The Sister Shack, a vendor at the farmers markets, makes lemonade, Italian ice, and smoothies from all natural products. Unlike the many lemonade brands that use corn syrup and additives, the Sister Shack boasts their use of fresh fruit and raw natural sugar.



Gala Menendez celebrates with a change of pace

Director Melissa Stuart has been involved with the Gala Menéndez for the past two years.

She’s been volunteering since 2008 and just became director about three months ago. The annual Gala Menéndez will take place on Saturday, Feb. 27, celebrating the 491st birthday of Pedro Menéndez de Avilés, founder of St. Augustine.



The Closet owner threads life, business with personality

Cassandra Helton, owner of The Closet and designer of the fashion line Helton Hill, is headed to the “big time.”

With her line now being sold across the country, a new showroom opening in Maine and her joining the social networking craze, this is the year, her mom, Guyanna Erklens, said. “Cassandra is gonna blow up.”
