MOVIE REVIEW: “The Hunger Games”

By Megan Bradt | gargoyle@flagler.edu

“The Hunger Games” is a movie that was created from a novel by Suzanne Collins. It begins during a time where desperate times call for desperate measures.

Children from ages 12 to 18 are selected at random to represent the district in which they live. One male and one female are chosen in a lottery drawing to fight not only one another, but also 11 additional districts that surround what is called the Capitol. Once these representatives are chosen, they are wined and dined in the Capitol while they train for battle. Only one person is allowed to survive, as they not only fight to the death against each other, but also against weather elements.

His previously self-published graphic novel, “The Reaper of St. George Street,” has been published by Pineapple Press and can be found on Amazon and Barnes and Noble Booksellers.

“I’ve been in love with the St. Augustine area ever since I was a kid, and I catch myself on many occasions almost calling St. Augustine my hometown,” Frattino, 28, said.

By Ryan Buffa | gargoyle@flagler.edu

Langhorne Slim and the Law will be playing the Original Café 11 on Saturday, March 10 and will bring a gospel sound with a rock and roll feel.

Langhorn Slim fits into the folk, singer-songwriter genre and going to his live performances could be described as a gospel-like experience. This is because his creative process requires three aspects that bleed into his live performances.

“Pay attention to the spirit when it moves you. Try to write down every idea. Feed inspiration with love,” Slim said.

Boldly going where every nerd has gone before

By Tiffanie Reynolds | gargoyle@flagler.edu

Looking over a table filled with plush Companion Cubes and Portal 2, Team Fortress and Left 4 Dead shirts, two other girls and I gasped as the vendor slid a plush space core into a cardboard box. “Sorry,” he said, looking over at us with an amused smirk, “this won’t be on sale for another couple months.” As if on cue, the three of us “aw”ed in disappointment—even our shoulders slumped at the same time—and the two girls left while I stayed, deciding between buying the Portal 2 shirt I held in my hand or the one featuring Left 4 Dead on the other end of the table.
