The Castillo de San Marcos National Monument will provide free admission to the grounds as part of the National Park Service’s National Public Lands Day on Sept. 27.
This event is held annually across the country as an opportunity to encourage the public to spend time outdoors and visit historic and cultural sites.
The Castillo de San Marcos is located on A1A in downtown St. Augustine. It is open daily from 8:45 a.m. to 5:15 p.m.
Fees are normally $6 for adults ages 16 and over, and free admission is always granted to children 15 and under when accompanied by an adult.
The St. Augustine area’s other National Park, Fort Matanzas National Monument, offers free admission all the time. Fort Matanzas is located on A1A South past Crescent Beach.
Fort Matanzas is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., with a ferry running hourly on the half hour starting at 9:30 a.m. The last ferry leaves for the fort at 4:30 p.m. The trip is free, but donations are accepted.
For more information, contact the Castillo de San Marcos at (904) 829-6506, and Fort Matanzas at (904) 471-0116.
