Summer is fast-approaching and with it comes the unbearable Florida heat. So why not sit down and cool off with an icy treat from BrrrBerry Frozen Yogurt?
The interior of BrrrBerry is even reminiscent of a summer day. The walls are bright pink and lime green, while ultra-sleek and modern furnishings line the walls. The best part is the glossy counter top lined with numerous toppings and the large metal frozen yogurt machine.
BrrrBerry opened in October 2009. Owner Heather Faver decided to open the store after she noticed a lack of frozen yogurt shops in the area. But she wishes she had waited a little longer to open BrrrBerry.
“We didn’t realize how cold it was going to be this winter,” Faver said. “We also didn’t realize how long the cold weather was going to last. Business was very slow when we first started out, but now that the weather is getting warmer it has steadily been picking up.”
The frozen yogurt served at BrrrBerry is different from the typical frozen yogurt. It tastes less like ice cream and more like the yogurt found in grocery stores.
“It’s a Japanese style frozen yogurt,” Faver said. “The product is more tart than it is sweet.”
This makes for a unique treat that is only made better with the variety of toppings BrrrBerry offers. The store has more than 20 toppings available including the typical sprinkles and chocolate chips to the more unusual Cap’n Crunch cereal. Fruit including strawberries, pineapple and kiwi is cut fresh daily.
BrrrBerry is also a healthy kind of dessert. It contains antioxidants from the live active cultures in the yogurt. Faver said it is also fat free and only contains 22 calories per ounce.
“It’s good for you because of the low amount of calories,” Faver said. “It makes it ideal for a light dessert or even a snack.”
In addition to the original frozen yogurt flavor, BrrrBerry has a special flavor that rotates weekly. Past flavors have included mango, coconut and chocolate raspberry. For those who want something other than frozen yogurt, BrrrBerry also offers parfaits, smoothies and traditional ice cream.
Faver said she maintains both a Facebook page and Twitter account for weekly updates on what is going on at BrrrBerry.
“I think it’s just a really fun place to own,” Faver said. “We have free WiFi, so it’s is also a nice place to study or do other work and enjoy a snack.”
The prices are relatively low—between $3 and $5 per serving, although the weekly flavor costs 50 cents extra. Toppings are one for 95 cents or three for $1.95.
BrrrBerry Frozen Yogurt is located at 35 San Marco Ave., Suite 1, next door to Luli’s. The hours are from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and from noon to 6 p.m. Sunday.
