Lady Saints gets a big win over Montclair State

Flagler College Women’s Soccer got their second win of the season Oct. 7, over 8-2-1 NCAA Div. III powerhouse, Montclair State (N.J.) at Arrgio Field at Northwood University.

Sophomore mid-fielder Megan Bundrick came out firing getting her first goal of the year and putting the Lady Saints on the score board in the third minute of the match on an unassisted goal. Montclair fought back as Megan Brown scored the equalizer for the Red Hawks in the 33rd minute off of a feed from Natalia Sisti and Kelly Dutko.


Summer spent helping in Ghana

The old slave castles along the coast of Ghana, Africa, can hardly be considered an ideal tourist destination. Two feet up from the ground, a marker on the walls symbolized how high the slaves’ excrement got before the traders drained it. Above the female slave quarters, free men worshiped their God while snickering that the African women below were not good enough for God to love.


Volleyball highlights

The Flagler Lady Saints volleyball team defeated the Embry-Riddle Eagles on Sept. 26. The Lady Saints rolled to a sweep victory. They were led by the hitting of Justine Burkhardt who had 15 kills.

Flagler senior and artist lands in two magazine issues

Flagler College senior Ty Williams chalked up his summer as “very bizarre.” As a typical college student who spends his time surfing, painting and eating ramen noodles, Williams somehow became a model for two magazine spreads.

Williams is featured in the October issues of Men’s Journal and Northeast Magazine. He got the opportunity to appear in the popular magazines on a total whim.

On Oct. 4, the alternative rock band Jack’s Mannequin performed live at Plush nightclub in Jacksonville.

Jack’s Mannequin frontman Andrew McMahon has had a bumpy road since taking a hiatus from Something Corporate, another piano-rock band that he fronts. McMahon was diagnosed with acute lymphatic leukemia right around the time of the release of Everything in Transit in August 2005.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, only 57.6 percent of 18 to 24 year olds vote. It’s the lowest of any age group. However, the figure jumps up to 81.2 percent among the same demographic for registered voters.
