On March 24, Canadian indie supergroup Swan Lake released their second album, Enemy Mine. The album is quite a departure from Swan Lake’s edgier, more avant-garde sound from their 2006 release Beast Moans. For Enemy Mine, the band was on a mission to prove that they could also write more traditional, lyrically based songs, and the results are rather impressive.

It is safe to say that Hollywood is getting lazy. American cinema was once known for its ability to shock, move and call its viewers to action. After a subpar Academy Awards, in which a phenomenal British film took the gold, spring peaks its head over the horizon. Summertime soon will follow—the breeding ground for film mediocrity.

Two of the most revered words in a college student’s vocabulary are “Spring Break.” For Flagler students these two words change to “Spring Blink.” Everyone on campus cherishes those four, five if you skip Wednesday of course, days of vacation during the crunch of the semester.
Some students take this as a time to head to South Beach, some to catch up on the many hours of lost sleep they’ve accumulated over the course of the semester, and some to get ahead on the piles of homework they know await them in the last few weeks of the semester. Most of us, at the very least, want to find an escape from learning for a little while, to give our minds room to breathe.
When I said this morning, “It looks like the end of the world out there,” it wasn’t an April Fool’s Day joke. It really did. Nature has really let the figurative heavens pour open and let everything it has fall on this first day of April.
When I got into my car on the way to school this morning, partially soaked, I turned on the radio to see what the traffic situation was like and what to expect out there on the roads. There were lots more accidents than on a usual morning and there were even some streets that were flooded.

The Enterprising Women’s Leadership Institute of Florida honored Flagler College student Jamie Alvarez, 22, as a female leader in the community on Saturday, March 21.
Alvarez received the recognition as a result of numerous service and leadership activities she has taken part in during her career as a student at Flagler College. She has served as an intern at United States Senator Mel Martinez’s local offices, has worked as the managing partner for the Dow Advantage Public Relations Group and has been actively involved in the “Girl Effect.”
“The Girl Effect is a non-profit funded by the Nike Foundation that provides scholarships and loans for women in third-world countries in order for them to establish their own businesses and make their own profit,” Alvarez said.

I never really understood why the Chinese had their own “New Year.” I’d heard about how China, that big, scary, far away country, had their own lunar calendar and new year celebrations AFTER January first, but never really thought about it until I got to live it! This year Chinese New Year fell on Jan. 26. This is the time of the year when all foreign teachers take their saved up yuan and hit the road (or train tracks) and explore this country while all the citizens are busy with their families. Being a teacher in China during the new year is awesome because schools have seven weeks off. Which means seven weeks of paid traveling time. Perfection.

Be Bold. For ladies, choose bright tones, pinks, greens, oranges and yellows to add a pop of color to any outfit. Guys, go for blue. Blue hues are big this season. Use blue as a focal point in your outfit. Do not go overboard though, you do not want to look like a smurf.
