A&E brief: Nonchalant to play benefit for St. Francis house

On Saturday, Nov. 19, St. Augustine’s new favorite band, Nonchalant, will be hosting a benefit concert to raise money and awareness for St. Francis House, a downtown shelter and soup kitchen. The concert will begin at 9 p.m. at the British Pub at 213 Anastasia Blvd.

The event will be 18 and up and will include food donated by Hurricane Grill and Wings, along with raffles throughout the night. All proceeds will be going to St. Francis House.

Nonchalant’s guitar player, Luke Newcomer, is more than excited about the event.

“We will sound better than ever. Having new members to the band gives us a tighter sound,” he said.

He said the band plans to cover bands such as Sublime, Grateful Dead and Buffalo Springfield, along with many more.

The St. Francis House of St. Augustine is the only full time emergency shelter between Jacksonville and Daytona Beach. They provide both meals and housing for those in need in St. Johns, Flagler, Clay, Putnam and Duval counties.

The band hopes to raise $2,000 or more for St. Francis House.

“Overall it should be a good time. We’re looking forward to giving back to the community,” said Newcomer.
